Say goodbye to the glamorous weddings with media coverage, elaborate parties, fancy balls, big names and fat cheques. Instead, say hello to wink-and-you-missed-it weddings. Letting the world know as an afterthought that you're married, is in.
The latest celebrity couple to feed us a delayed scoop is Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams. But we'll never forgive Beyonce for keeping us hanging on almost forever. We'll pick bones with her later. But for now, here's ruing the celebrity marriages that didn't hit our radar in time.
Mandy Moore & Ryan Adams
The two singers announced their engagement in February. And now, that the wedding is over, we have the details. Imagine a late afternoon on Tuesday, the two driving into the chapel's yard lined with oaks, azaleas and dogwood trees.
It's just the two of them and Pastor Schulte, who has no clue of their celebrity status, inside the chapel oozing light through stained glass windows.
Moore, elegant in a cream-coloured, lacy tea-length dress with flat sandals says ‘I do' to a scruffy Ryan Adams.
Maybe it's a good thing we missed this eyesore kissing the bride.
Gisele Bundchen & Tom Brady
Tom Brady's dad and Gisele were engaged in trashing 'engagement rumours' and reconfirming them. This we realised was a ploy to distract us. While we were left panting and puffing rushing from side to side thanks to their indecisiveness, Gisele and Tom Brady got married! And the newly weds even had time to settle into marital bliss—Gisele's at ease with her stepson—before they let the cat out of the bag.
The world's highest paid supermodel and the football star got married in a hush-hush wedding in Santa Monica on February 26.
Salma Hayek & Francois-Henri Pinault
The sex bomb kept us guessing for a long time with her on-again off-again relationship with billionaire beau. And then she did it! The two landed up at City Hall in Paris on Valentine's Day to say 'I do'. Yes, it's a tad corny, just like in the movies.
Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds
We appreciate Scarlett's honesty. 'It was my mission to have a moment of privacy, to do something for myself,' said the actress to Los Angeles Times on keeping her wedding under wraps. She didn't send us on a wild goose chase but we ended up
going on one all the same while trying to track them down—the couple got hitched in a remote retreat in Vancouver.
Jessica Alba & Cash Warren
It hurts to recall Jessica's rather plain wedding. The gorgeous star landed up at the Beverly Hills Municipal Court in a blue dress to say 'I do' to Cash Warren. 'When I was a little girl, it was all about the princess fairy tale, but life is changing every day, and I'm just going with it,' said Alba. And we say drat! We imagined Alba's big day to be filled with celebrity splendour and have fairy tale written all over it.
Michael C Hall & Jennifer Carpenter
We're sort of relieved that we weren't part of this one. The two stars play brother and sister on the morbid, blood-obsessed TV series Dexter.
Mariah Carrey & Nick Cannon
Just a couple of weeks after they started dating, the two flew to the Bahamas and had a lovely wedding by the beach. What we're amazed at is Mariah's organisational skills. How on earth did she manage to fit in all the bling bling on such short notice!
Jewel & Ty Murray
This one makes us go awww! The singer and the rodeo star eloped to a private beach in the Bahamas, with just two close friends as witnesses. The newly weds reportedly spent the evening dancing by the light of fireworks. 'It felt like we were the only ones in the world,' said Ty.
Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt
You've got to hand it to them. The Hills couple not only managed to keep their planned elopement in Mexico from their friends and family but also the MTV camera crew. Now that calls for some skills. Wow!
Beyonce & Jay-z
Now for some unfinished business. The R&B diva and the hip-hop mogul got married in a posh penthouse with just 40 people in attendance on April 4, 2008. And it wasn't till November that Beyonce let slip that it's all been done with. While we're nursing a bruised ego that makes it right to know everybody's business, we're thoroughly in awe of all those 40 attendees who keep their lips sealed even after Beyonce has acknowledged it.
